Carl Oprey was born in England. He holds a BA from Liverpool School of Art (John Moores University) and the MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia. For several years he worked in the film industry as an assistant and second unit director to a wide range of directors including: John Irvin, Nikita Mikhalkov, James Ivory and Kenneth Brannagh.
Carl has had feature film scripts acquired on spec by Fox Searchlight, been commissioned by BBC films and originated and developed several television series both in the UK and US. He has also written and directed several short off-Broadway plays and published fiction in various magazines, journals and anthologies.
